I was recently given an opportunity to check out one of the coolest little gadgets created, the microwave bacon cooker. That's right a way to cook bacon in the microwave without all the fuss, mess and burns. It's really easy to use and very figure friendly because all the fat drips to the bottom of the container. And it's the only totally enclosed cooking unit for bacon on the market. Impressed already?
My first impression of the little canister is it resembles a hospital water pitcher. I was a little skeptical of if it would actually cook the bacon. So yesterday I went to the store to purchase some bacon (slightly overpriced too). I decided this morning to try it out.
I thoroughly washed my cooker and laid everything out.
Then I arranged my bacon on the little rack per the instructions. I only did one piece on each rack for testing purposes.
Then I popped it in the microwave for 2:30 seconds just to try it. I don't like crispy bacon, so that was the time I chose to start with. When I took it out of the microwave this is my end results:
My kids ate it up. Hubby said I didn't cook it to his likings, but that's ok, that just leaves more for me. I have to say that I am impressed with the cooker. All the fat did indeed go to the bottom and and it cook relatively fast. I'm also impressed that I cooked bacon and didn't get burned. I will definitely start buying more bacon and cooking it a la microwave. I'm also thinking of getting my mother and Aunt one for Christmas. It's perfect for those who want bacon and not have to cook a bunch at once.
